Samsung Electronics, one of the best mobile communication equipment manufactures in engea, uses Altibase MMDBMS in its mobile communication server platform, the 2.5th generation for CDMA2000 1x and 3rd generation for IMT2000. The company applies Altibase to the HLR of its subscriber management system and to the DLR of its data service system for mobile communication.
Managing the basic data for call processing, data for additional services, information of subscriber certification, and other data in mobile communication, the HLR (Home Location Register) server is system that tracks subscribers' positions by real time and offers call connection between base station transceiver systems. Because the system has to process a database by real time in order to achieve these, it needs a highly efficient main memory DBMS.
Samsung Electronics has recently been feeling limited by the conventional database system, so the company designed real time database system to improve data processing performance and developed independantly. Because the system had difficulty adding new services and updating its database on running systems, the system's maintenance expense was very expensive. For these reasons, the company decided to introduce Altibase as its general-purpose main memory database management system, and as a result the company developed its reliable HLR system through transaction processing of high speed and database replication.
By applying Altibase in the HLR, the system can easily construct and efficiently manage a database that includes subscriber information of one million, additional services, and operation data information. The system also has a TCAP message-based performance of more than 2000TPS. The application of Altibase's replication feature in the system offers high reliability and high availability using fault tolerant services.
By using Altibase, the company is assured of landmark improvements in the solving of problems such as online update of the database schema, online connection of database manager, and real-time update /insert/delete of subscriber information etc. in a typical system.
